Review of 2018

It’s been a very difficult year, but the sadness has been diluted a little with some lovely memories along the way. Here’s to a better 2019.

Up to Arras

Once again, it’s past midnight and the suitcase is almost packed, lying nearby after I became distracted by bills which need paying and hotels which need booking. Jo is away already, arrived in Scotland after a mammoth journey, and I am kicking my heels across Europe until we meet again next weekend on the other […]

The Thirteenth Country

As we were so near the border when we visited Bavaria in October, we drove over into the Czech Republic to add the thirteenth country to the list of those I’ve visited. There’s not much in this region and in order to avoid paying a motorway toll – as we were only there for an […]

My lovely co-pilot

I’ve just realized, in shaking my head at how far behind I am on adding photos from the past two years, that I have only posted around half of the shots from our summer road trip in 2010! Here’s Jo at her all-time favourite beach: Oldshoremore, on the far north west coast of Scotland.

Cnoc Fyrish, Alness, Scotland

Looming over Evanton on the Cromarty Firth is Cnoc Fyrish and the strange construction on its summit is the Fyrish Monument. The construction was the brainchild of Sir Hector Munro of Novar, who had it built in 1792 to provide work for the unemployed during the time of the Highland Clearances.

Light in the Forest

A great effect using just the natural, speckled daylight filtering through the trees during our recent trip to Germany. The technique of exposing for the sunlight in a shady area uses the technique I first wrote about in this blog post from 2009.

My love, 6 years on

In October 2004, I made my first journey to Scotland and met Jo "in real life" (as they say) for the first time. We spent days travelling around the Angus countryside; one of my first photos of Jo was taken on a woodland walk at Glamis Castle when she was trying to avoid being photographed. […]

Victor, Susten Pass, Switzerland

Bored of landscape photos? Whip out a flash gun and take some portraits :-) Victor on our trip over the Swiss alpine passes earlier today. I wrote about touring the Swiss alpine passes on my blog last year.
