The last two summer holidays which Jo and I have taken involved a lot of travelling to Italy; using planes, trains and buses to get to the Aeolian Islands in 2009 and to the Amalfi coast in 2008. This year, though, we’re heading back out into the world in a car, to make another cross-European journey and visit family and friends across the U.K.
The first leg of the journey from our home in central Switzerland takes us to the border at Basel, where France, Germany and Switzerland come together, before continuing through France to Strasbourg and onward to Metz. Shortly thereafer, we make our second international border crossing into Luxembourg and a third into Belgium, before arriving at Torhout for our first overnight stop and heading a few kilometres up the road to Bruges for dinner and sightseeing. (We certainly won’t be having dinner beneath the bell tower though, after seeing the black comedy “In Bruges” last year!)
You can follow our progress in photos as we head from Switzerland to Scotland and back again, by visiting photos tagged “roadtrip2010” in my Flickr photostream.
