The Rosengarten (Rose Garden) in Bern is high on the hill to the east of the city, with fantastic views across the Aare meander and the lower part of the old city.
Deep in the Jura mountains is a large cave; easily accessible, as it sits alongside the main road which winds its way through the bottom of the Pichoux Gorge. In the cave is a shrine to the Christian St. Columba of Spain.
The inevitably named High Bridge near Leuk in the upper reaches of canton Wallis in Switzerland; so named because of the depth of the gorge beneath it.
Although it doesn’t look much, this remote – really remote – hamlet was the turning point on our mammoth road trip last summer, from Switzerland to Scotland and back.

The “Nebelmeer” (lit. sea of cloud) is a fabulous meteorological phonemenon at this time of year, caused by a band of dense cloud sealing cold air beneath it in alpine valleys.
The single track road from Stöckalp in the Melchtal valley up to the ski resort of Melchsee Frutt is… an experience.
