I like being up high. When we were in Stuttgart at the beginning of October, I could therefore hardly turn up the chance to visit the restaurant at the top of the world’s first concrete television tower. I am a little scared of heights when on man-made structures, but I managed to overcome a wobbly-knees moment when we arrived at the viewing platform by lift, 500 feet above the ground, to find that the gentle breeze was causing the pinnacle of the tower to shift slightly. (A usual occurrence on such high structures.)

The view – and, to be honest, the Black Forest Gateau – were well worth the trip and the taxation on my nerves was stilled long enough for me to get some bird’s-eye views of the surrounding forests and city laid out across the neighbouring hillsides.
