2019 in the air

One of the challenges of being such an avid photographer is that I capture so many images all the time. Over the past few years, I’ve made a specific effort to delete as many of the of the unsuccessful photos as I can when I download my day’s efforts onto the computer. This has luckily reduced the amount of images to process.

Alongside my focus on photography — no pun intended — is the fact that I also fly my drone around and have so many video clips. This simply adds to the pile of wonderful memories that I have captured and ones which I can revisit. When I first got my drone in 2018, it was a learning curve — just like any gaining any new ability. I used to just fly around comparatively aimlessly and enjoy the views from higher in the sky, but as time has gone on, I’ve tried to make more of a conscious effort to making a point behind filming sequences. One of them is that the clips I capture with the drone may be combined later on to some sort of cohesive video.

It’s been a long time in the making, but I finally managed to put aside some time this summer and autumn to combining some of the best clips from 2019 into the film I’ve linked above. It’s great to be able to look back on all of these experiences: to have moving pictures to look back on. It’s also been quite nice to see how much my flying, filming and video editing skills have improved with the drone over the last few years. Many of the clips I’ve included have been edited to within an inch of their life to make them usable, from the lower image quality from my original drone, to shooting in unsuitable light. I hope you enjoy this short reminiscence of things that I saw in 2019.
