Eigergletscher to Alpiglen

I was keen to do more winter hiking this year, and although winter seems to have flown by, I did manage to get out into the snow more often than in previous years.

Most recently, we got the big cable-car up from Grindelwald to Eigergletscher with the intention of then getting the short train connection to Kleine Scheidegg and walking down to Alpiglen.

After having lunch in the Eigergletscher train station restaurant (which has happily remained unchanged despite the newly-built concrete and glass terminus for the large cable-car), we decided to walk down to Kleine Scheidegg instead.

The glorious weather encouraged us to keep going and we ended up heading for our initial destination after all. Two-and-a-half hours and seven kilometres later, having negotiated the steeper sections thanks to the help of our microspikes, we enjoyed the last of the sun with a boozy coffee in the garden at Alpiglen before catching the train back to the valley.

Looking stunning – as always! The clear air helps to make the colours so sharp and bright
