It’s been a while since I’ve made a website all on my own, from start to finish, from concept to design to production. My day job mainly involves working as part of a team on an existing concept, then making it work. But the design work isn’t something I do much any more.
As a thank you to the family friends who run the Hotel Posthuis in Melchsee Frutt for their hospitality through the years, and partially to celebrate their centenary this year, I offered to make them a new website in my spare time. I guess it counts as an early Christmas present, as I did it just for the fun of it!
I’d hoped to have the new website online for the anniversary last Friday, but this past weekend was the first of the winter ski season, so they understandably had more to worry about than carrying out final checks on their website.
The new version is now online, though, with a flexible layout to better serve visitors with iPads and smartphones, with responsive images (which are smaller and quicker to download on smartphones), a fresh look and feel, and plenty of new images. More updates will follow in January, including a display of the current weather information, webcam views, and a photo gallery of Melchsee Frutt itself.
