Waldeggallmi, Switzerland

Ever on the search for “perfect” viewpoints in the Bernese Oberland, I sometimes end up driving up tiny roads in the hope that they’ll lead me to a new photograph. A (luckily tarmaced) single-track road, for which you have to buy an inexpensive day permit at the shop in Waldegg, leads through the forests and meadows high… (Read More)

Brienz, Switzerland

Going through my photo archives, I sometimes come across images from long ago which I’d forgotten about. This view of the lake next to the office where I used to work dates back to December 2006.

Kiental, Switzerland

Kiental is known both locally in the Bernese Oberland and further afield as a destination from which to start hiking into the high mountains around the Blüemlisalp. It’s also a popular destination for locals to go skiing and sledging in winter, well away from the more heavily-visited destinations in the region.

Schongütsch, Switzerland

Instead of heading up from the top train station along the tourist track to the summit of the Brienzer Rothorn, turn left instead and follow the clear footpath to Schongütsch. The views are just as spectacular, but the experience is a little less “touristy”.

Brienzer Rothorn, Switzerland

The view across to the larger peaks of the Jungfrau Region and down to the lake are… (Read More)

Aigle, Switzerland

The castle at Aigle, near the western end of the Valais, was originally two fortifications. It’s a picture-book scene, but harks back to serious use in the fifteenth century, when it was already over two hundred years old. Today, it sits peacefully amongst expansive vineyards and welcomes tourists from all over the world.

Zürich, Switzerland

Paradeplatz in Zürich is a central tram stop, where several lines come together under the watchful eyes of bank headquarters. Here, fresh rain and the addition of Christmas lighting lit up the square to provide a festive scene.

Brunnialp, Switzerland

The Brunnihütte sits beneath the heights of the Morgenberghorn, overlooking the forests above Aeschi and Suldtal. We decided to hike there on a hot late summer day, but due to leaving home late, this viewpoint is as far as we got before having to turn back. Next time, we’ll leave earlier and make it all… (Read More)

Bawald, Switzerland

The hike from Aeschiried to Brunni, high above Lake Thun, affords spectacular, panoramic views down to the lake, to Interlaken, and as far as Brienz.

Lake Brienz, Switzerland

Clouds cast shadows on the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz, near Iseltwald in Switzerland.
