I can’t remember the first time I visited the vineyards on the shores of Lake Geneva. I do remember that it was many years ago, and I have photos of being there with Jo and my Mum and Dad when they visited us about twenty years ago.
It’s a breathtaking landscape to spend time in, and these slopes have become one of my favourite places in the whole country. In more recent years, we’ve visited in winter, when there are fewer people around, as well as in summer, when the area is busier and especially popular with cyclists.
The village of Rivaz, in particular, always draws me in with my camera — not only because there’s a convenient parking garage hidden amongst the historic buildings, but also because of how wonderfully photogenic it is.
I’ve been wanting to do something with my video files for a long time now and continue adding to my YouTube channel. This year is hopefully the one when I finally dig out more of my drone footage from the past six years and put it to use. I’m currently working on a video covering the whole of 2020, but I wanted to share this shorter piece showing the beautiful vineyards in the late winter afternoon sun a few weeks before COVID-19 hit and we were all locked down. Even though the vines are bare and the landscape feels cold and unfruitful at this time of year, it is no less beautiful than at any other time of year.
