We’re loving the long-awaited new series of The X-Files. Just the right balance of humour and sci-fi, with much of the over-done conspiracy of the latter seasons having been suppressed or explained away in the interim.

Scully’s emotional regret at having her son adopted is heart-felt and touching. But why isn’t Mulder, the father, commenting when she talks about it? He doesn’t strike me as the type to keep his emotions to himself – after all, much of his younger character was formed during the hunt for his abducted sister. It may be a trait which will be explained later, but it’s coming across that the father of the adopted boy doesn’t have the right to comment on the issue, leaving the perceptible emotional struggle with Scully.
