In most places in the mountains, even heavily-touristed spots like Creux-du-Van, visitors are left to their own common sense when it comes to health and safety. Fences and walkways seem to only be installed where it’s really necessary, although I can’t quite fathom when the decision is made.

This allows one the chance to experience nature at ones own risk, viewing the massive landscape without being impeded by massed warning signs and man-made barriers. You’d think that sitting right on the edge of a cliff like this would be for the sense of adrenaline and danger, but if truth be told, doing it so much for so many years brings me a sense of peace, not a sense of fear.

(That being said, you wouldn’t get me standing right on the edge like that.)
