Leila Licks, MFO park photo workshop

“Keep It Simple” portrait meetup

It’s been a while since my last photo workshop and so it’s definitely time for another! I’ve spent a lot of time over the past year getting used to a simpler workflow and getting used to my Fuji X100 and since doing so, I’ve constantly been reminded how easier and how much more fun it […]

Portraiture day at the MFO-Park

Our workshop day this past Sunday was a great success, after the rain passed away from the MFO Park in Oerlikon some ten minutes before we started! Blazing sunshine soon warmed the area and gave us plenty of light to work with, so the day was spent mainly working with a mixture of natural sunlight […]

Scott, Swiss Strobist workshop, Lausanne

After a break of almost two years, and a handful of small lighting courses both on location and in the studio, I’ve decided to organize more free days of photography and learning in the style of the Swiss Strobist days. The day will allow participants to work in groups together with models, to try out […]

Studio training course in Bern

I ran a course earlier in the year on the subject of portraiture and lighting, which was very well received by the attendees and which I really enjoyed organizing. I’ve been planning to run a similar photo course for a while now, and have decided that the next event will take place on the weekend […]

Portraiture and Lighting course in Zurich

My all-day coaching session on 11th June 2011 took place in the grounds of the ETH at Hönggerberg in Zurich. I’ve used this location several times before thanks to the size and variety of potential areas in which to take photos; from modern architectural detail to green lawns and trees.

Sitting in yesterday evening during the second of two studio lighting introductions. Strobist info: one gridded, snooted Elinchrom spot from back right as a "hairlight"; SB-900 through white umbrella camera left. Although you may have noticed that. :)

Swiss Strobist – the next level

I’m happy to announce that starting in June, I’ll be taking the Swisss Strobist workshops to the next level. Moving away from the previous days with large groups of attendees, I’ll be leading affordable half- and one day courses both on location and in the studio. Each course is specially prepared for photographers who have learned how to use a Cactus trigger or PocketWizard, but who have only covered the basics in Strobist photography and now want to know what to do with this comparatively new technical know-how.

Surprise

One of a small series of shots to portray different moods, shot during the Swiss Strobist day at the ETH in Hönggerberg, Zürich. Strobist info: one direct snooted flash from high camera left. Thank you Leila.

Out of the Blue

The last shot of the day; a thousand thanks to Jo for putting her thigh and calf muscles to the test to get this shot! Strobist info: camera white balance set to 2,500 K (creating the blue effect) and a single zoomed flash from above with two full CTO gels to achieve regular white light […]

Nice, simple flash to balance the ambient light: one flash with white umbrella on a high stand next to me. Mild vignette applied during post-processing.
