The beach at Morar, western Scotland

This was on my first trip to the western coast of Scotland, en route to the Isle of Skye. The white sand and brilliant turquoise sea still amazes me and I hope to return there soon, to be able to take more photographs of the amazing and unexpected landscape views.

Portree

We arrived in the harbour area of Portree, where our hotel was located on the quayside. To outsiders, the harbour seems small and quaint, but to many islanders on the west coast, it’s the main port through which they connect to the rest of Skye and to mainland Britain.

The Last House

On the north west coast of Skye, in Scotland. Jo and I did a two day lap of the island in 2005, and have particularly happy memories of this view, where we stopped for a while and admired the remoteness and “end of the world” feeling.

Remote

Driving with Jo up from Fort William to Mallaig, to catch the ferry to Skye in April 2005, we passed many remote lochs and bothies hidden in quiet, lonely glens.
