While many things about the Amalfi coast are old and out-of-date, the memorial candles in the church of Santa Maria Assunta certainly aren’t. Powered by battery, their glow in darker corners is static and warm.

I make a point of visiting the largest local church whenever I go somewhere new. Though not quite the scale of St. Peter’s in Vatican City, which I visited ten years ago, the larger of the churches in Positano is nonetheless beautiful and exquisitely decorated.
