Bern, Switzerland

A classic view of the ancient centre of the federal Swiss capital, Bern, photographed from the city’s Rose Garden terrace. Sadly, the view is often peppered with builders’ machinery, including the scaffolding which has been on various parts of the city minster with only a few short breaks since 1950.

Winteregg, Mürren, Switzerland

The mountain station and restaurant at Winteregg, halfway between Grütschalp and Mürren, is a great place to enjoy a sunny lunch on the large terrace and enjoy the terrific, panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

First, Grindelwald, Switzerland

The mountain restaurant and top cable car station at First, above Grindelwald, affords amazing views down to the valley and to the huge wall of rock opposite: including the famous Eiger North Wall.
