Although we’d been in torrential rain just a quarter of an hour earlier, the rain let up just before we arrived at Castlerigg. After waiting for a few minutes for a small coach party to disperse, I headed to the far side of the field to capture the panorama and sunlight sweeping across the distant hills in two shots: left and right, stitched together during post-processing. This shot took around 15 minutes and numerous attempts to get exactly the right combination of light on the stones, whilst both shadow and sunlight lay on the hills behind. The shots were made more difficult because of the strength of the wind, which was whipping the light across the hills as fast as I’ve ever seen it.
