Trout Inn, Wolvercote, Oxfordshire

Jo and I are staying near Oxford this evening en route eastwards towards Kent. We made a stop here specifically to visit this 18th century riverside inn, made famous by the Inspector Morse series. Sadly, since my last visit and since the decreased interest after the final book some years ago, the builders have been in and turned the dark, oak beamed pub into a boutique bar and restaurant. Whilst the food was delicious and the prices very good indeed for such a popular pub, the mood has been changed forever. It’s now a nice, modern restaurant with modern, clean menus, but the history of the building has been lost.
