Abington Services, Lanarkshire

Jo and I visited many motorway service stations during our trip to the UK, but this was my favourite, amongst the frozen, icy, rolling hills of the south of Scotland.

Sunset in Taormina

It was only when collating photos for my 2010 calendar and for the Review of my Year 2009 that I realized I have yet to post any of my photos from when Jo and I were in Taormina this May. Time flies so fast; it seems like just days ago that we were there. Stay […]

Swaddling

A small selection of my favourite photos from the Satzart/!frappant/book4you/flabs anniversary party, in Uptown on the hill at Gurten, on the outskirts of Bern, is now online at Permanent Tourist. The mid-event slideshow was by well-known artist, photographer and humourist Reeto von Gunten. You can see the complete set of my photos on the !frappant […]

Habi and Nina

Thank you a thousand times over to Habi and Nina, who volunteered to help me out on my quest for One Frame Movie photos. This was the closing shot of the evening, taken underneath the Nydegg bridge in the old town of Bern, as a special thank you to them both for being so patient […]

Hacer, Scott and Sandra

The final shot of the day, which took a little bit of pre-preparation. Scott and I organized that he would be drenched and photographed at the end of the day, and this is the best shot of the batch I took. (Coincidentally, not the one where he was the wettest!) Thank you to everyone who […]

Week 23 of 52

Me and Marc Quinn. His exhibition piece at the Fondation Beyeler in Basel consists of four casts of his own head from between 1991 and 2006, each formed using 9 litres of his own frozen blood. They look like quite revolting ice lollies in a way, with each of them varying in density and texture. […]

And we’re walking *towards* that because…?

Visiting Stromboli was a long-time goal form both Jo and for me, though for Jo much longer than myself! We spent an hour and a half walking around from the port on the far side of the island and finally found ourselves thinking, "just over the next ridge". When we did finally reach that last […]

CHOO CHOO, Bern Strobist day

Strobist information: individual flash units on 1/2 power, zoomed to provide spotlight effects on the band members and held by fellow photographers out of shot. Ambient light underexposed 2 stops and heavy Photoshop work to clean up the scene. Although this scene did actually occur – several times – this is a mix of two […]

Marzili funicular, Bern, Switzerland

I’ve been wandering the streets of Bern at lunchtime all week, taking photos of buildings, views and scenes: most of which have been series of individual pictures to bring home and stitch together on the computer. This is one of my more successful results, which is a stitch of 12 pictures to show the panoramic […]

In the absence of ready cash to buy a new scanner, I’ve finally found a photo shop which is capable of decent, low cost medium format scanning.
