Photo album No Place Like Home

Daily view

Uncanny, isn’t it? This shot was taken precisely 24 hours after the previous one in my photostream – to the minute – and the only thing which is essentially different is how far the moon has progressed on its passage from left to right across the view.

Daily view

We moved into our new home in Faulensee last Friday. Thanks to some grotty weather, this morning has been the first time when a photo can truly do justice to the view from our balcony; to the left, the village of Faulensee; straight ahead, the view across the Thunersee to Merligen and the Justistal valley; […]

Moonshine

We’re exchanging our wonderful view of the Niesen with a wonderful view of Lake Thun at the end of next week, so the moon decided to put on a special show for us this evening.

We’re hoping to go to Street Parade today in Zürich. For now, though, we’re waiting out torrential rain at home.

Week 13 of 52

A complete accident which worked out well. Slightly out of focus, misaligned, and the second flash didn’t fire because I was blocking the optical sensor. I like it, though. Strobist info: 1 speedlight on 1/16 power off-camera left (high). Background illuminated by feathered spill from the single light. Sepia toning and vignette courtesy of Adobe […]

Week 2 of 52

The first "proper" set-up self portrait I’ve taken in absolutely ages. I have to practice and I anticipate that this "52 weeks" project will be a good self-training exercise in portraiture.

Silent Night, Spiez, Switzerland

Not our road, but the newer residential complex behind our building. Taken in complete silence the other night, as snow fell and I stood vigilant with tripod and umbrella. Part of my personal Review of My Year 2008, now on Permanent Tourist. We’re off to England on Wednesday, so stay tuned for updates from there. […]

1st August, Niesen, Switzerland

Fireworks atop the Niesen to celebrate the Swiss national holiday. (The shades of dark grey in this are quite subtle, so you may have to adjust your monitor to see the outline of the mountain.)

Haggis, Spiez, Switzerland

Jo’s parents have arrived from Scotland for a visit, bringing with them loads of British goodies. Amongst them, many tins of haggis, which now completely fill one of the shelves in our kitchen cupboards.

Home is not a place. It is something to which you return whenever you can, which warms your heart and which allows you to be comfortable; your true self.
