I’m a bugger for not going for a walk when I need to. Freshly back from one of our regular Christmas expeditions to the U.K., where I spent most of my time sitting down, I still find myself a little reticent when considering going for a walk. I don’t even know why, when I enjoy walking so much; as soon as I get outside, I immediately start to enjoy it. Even, as was the case yesterday, when it was cold and raining and I was in a town. These days, my knees are getting good at telling me when I need to shift myself.
I’ve written before about how much I enjoy watching Winter Walks on the BBC (for example with Selina Scott), where the scenery is nice and very English. I subscribe to fellow Fujifilm photographer Nigel Cooke’s website and his latest video, embedded in this blog post, is a nice sequence of a walk in snowy Cambridgeshire which is a great example of what I enjoy about random walks. For me, walking isn’t about expansive vistas and big mountains, but the intricacies and moments of the place in which you find yourself.
