I love my job, but it involves sitting in front of a computer for hours at a time. It also brings stress sometimes, and my natural tendency is to be highly focused on the work I am doing.
When I start to feel that it’s getting too much, I force myself to get outside and go walking. Usually in the mountains, where the beauty of the landscape and the effort required puts technical problems far from my mind. But at this time of year, when there is still snow on the mountains, it’s easy to think that there are no walks to be done.
I have to remind myself that there are other walks to be done; many other destinations or viewpoints to be investigated for their photographic potential. If not on a perfect day for photography, then just for the sheer enjoyment of being in the fresh air, away from the madding crowd and comfortable in my own company.
