The desk at my third employer in Switzerland isn’t in as nice an office as the white-and-red-brick one at Burson-Marsteller, and the view – of a car park and dusty four-storey apartment block common to the Breitenrain district – isn’t a patch on the one I had of the lake and the mountains in Brienz.
Nevertheless, it deserves a Desk Memory: a collage of photos taken of the view I’ve seen for eight hours a day, every working day, since 2011. Specific details include a photographic reminder of hiking with Jo in the Lake District, my accustomed two-monitor setup, and the OCD-inducing off-centre-angle at which my desk sits to the horrible overhead strip lighting.
