The lake shore at Gwatt is beloved by bird-watchers, being lined with reed beds containing countless nests in the spring. It’s a great spot from which to see the lake, and to enjoy both sunrise – behind the large mountains in the distance – and in the evening, when the north-eastward view is illuminated by the setting sun.

There are several car parks along the main Spiez-Thun road: at Gwatt Camping, Bonstetten Park and at Thun Seeblick. The latter one is the better place to park, as it’s just a couple of hundred metres from the mixed footpath and boardwalk amongst the reed beds.
