Arco Felice

Despite appearances, this construction, near Bacoli in southern Italy, is neither an aqueduct, viaduct nor bridge. The Romans dug their road straight through a hill and built this brick and concrete reinforcement arch to hold back the hillside. It dates back to the 1st century AD and is called “Arco Felice”: the happy arch!
