Mind: blown. The app isn’t anywhere near as snappy or as accurate as the “fun” promotional video would suggest, but it does optically recognize text in a foreign language of your choice and translate it live for you on your smart phone screen.

The translations are a bit hit-and-miss, but if this kind of technology is already available for free to anyone with a smartphone, then it won’t be long until the interface between the app and the online translation service is improved. And the translations may not be perfect, but they’re certainly good enough to get a quick translation of a sign, menu or poster.
