When scouting destinations and views prior to my recent trip to London, I came across an potentially interesting-looking rooftop amongst some shots which photographer Ben Roberts, who I follow on Instagram, had shared on social media platforms.
A quick question to find out where it is (and a nice friendly answer!) led me to the comparatively new shopping centre at One New Change, adjacent to St. Paul’s Cathedral. The centre has a rooftop terrace, which is freely accessible when the centre is open and which affords a surprisingly great viewpoint for the cathedral’s dome and across the city.
I took a preliminary shot in the late afternoon, had dinner, then returned at dusk to get my shot whilst there was still some light in the sky. The rain had obliged, by soaking the rooftop terrace and creating a nice damp surface to reflect some of the light from the illuminated dome.
