The Squares of Arras

I stopped over at Arras en route to England a couple of weeks ago, and strolled into the historic centre to get dinner and take some snaps. Whilst the architecture is worth seeing, with north European – almost Dutch – styled buildings surrounding the Grande Place and the Place des Héros, the ambience is somewhat lacking. The great draw of the town is the architecture and these two squares are truly spoiled by the modern need for transport: the Place de Héros surrounded by roads through which the flow of cars is fairly incessant, with the Grand Place completely filled by a large car park.
