Stoer Point Lighthouse, Scotland

Twelve miles north of Lochinver over a single track road, we arrived at Stoer Point Lighthouse, where an unexpected number of foreign cars and complete lack of any other people surprised us somewhat. The rather short lighthouse was built in this extremely remote spot in 1870 and was automated in 1978. Since then, astoundingly, it has been operated by remote control from Edinburgh, around 200 miles to the south.
