Derwentwater, Cumbria

The white house on the lakeside at Derwentwater is a place I try to return to when I visit the Lake District, as it is perfectly placed for landscape photographic composition. I first saw the house in a photo by my friend Francis Spooner and have been re-visiting since the mid 1990s.

This time, Jo and I parked on the road above the house and decided to scramble up through waist-high ferns to get to a higher viewpoint; this was the first shot I took, looking east towards Bleaberry Fell and Watendlath, as we stopped for a breather on the steep hillside.
