One of the shots from a photo session yesterday afternoon along the shores of Lac Léman. After shooting other pictures in the woods, we went to an area of open sunshine and I asked Fanny to stand with her back to the sun. I then took up position in the shadow she cast, with the sun directly behind her head. The massive contrast between the sun and her shaded face blew out the highlights to create the effect here. Fill light was carefully controlled through exposure and by the reflected sunlight from my white t-shirt. No artificial light was used in this shot at all. Tips if you want to re-create this effect: the effect works best with blondes; make sure your lens is spotlessly clean; and manual focus carefully as the flare makes autofocus lenses hunt like crazy.
