Jo and I attended an Imogen Heap concert in the converted gym hall of the PROGR Centre for Cultural Production last week and I was immediately struck by the interior of the old historic school building: high ceilings, wide staircases and long corridors.

The PROGR building plays host to around a hundred independent artists, who by working with supporters and sponsors managed to raise 12 million Swiss francs over the space of 5 weeks to purchase the building from the city council, circumventing a private purchase and subsequent ousting of the existing residents by an architectural and design agency.

I contacted the administration office the day after the concert and am very grateful to them for their agreement for me to shoot in the building from time to time on an ongoing basis. Although the shoot this weekend took in several parts of the building – starting with the shot above in a cleared area within the vast attic – there are many more parts of the building to which I will return with my camera in future.
