The parade this year, as in the past few years, has been over-run by photographers. Even before the procession started, dancers and public were being accosted by professionals touting business cards, featuring a swathe of website addresses set up to sell photographs of the event. In the run-up to the parade, all talk was of the way that the original sense of party has largely been overtaken by the media. Even during the last three times that I’ve been to the Street Parade, the level of happy snappers has begun vastly outweighing the number of costumed revellers.
