Permanent Tourist

The autumn fairs may be some time away yet, but the first day of September here in the Swiss Alps has arrived with the kind of chilled air which tells me that there is snow on the mountains. It’s at this time of year that I miss working by the lake in the Bernese Oberland, when the daily view was not of chilly city streets but of glorious mountains turning orange and gold, whilst mist drifted across the vast turquoise waters of Lake Brienz.
