The Giessbach Falls are actually located on the far side of the turquoise blue lake from Brienz, where water collects in the high alpine Sägis valley, channels its way down the cliffs and finally falls over 14 individual cascades and a height of over 500 metres before passing the historic Grandhotel Giessbach and emptying into the lake itself. There are several small foot bridges over the cascade and at this time of year, when rain is plentiful and melting snow adds to the flow, the waterfall is at its most impressive. The more daring visitor can choose to head up a short but steep path and pass over a small walkway behind the waterfall to capture a lovely view looking down past the hotel to the lake.
