    Travel, Wales | 28th June 2009

Elegug Stacks are two limestone pillars standing freely, a short distance from the cliffs on the coastline of Pembrokeshire in south west Wales. Due to their inaccessibility – helped by the surrounding area being closed by the Ministry of Defence when they use their tank testing ranges – the multitude of birds are allowed to breed in comparative peace. I was lucky enough to visit on a very photogenic day last month, when the birds were roosting, the sun was shining and the coastal area was open to public access. The stacks take their name from the Welsh word for “guillemot”.
