    Italy, Travel | 21st April 2009

Thoughts of our upcoming late Spring holiday to the Aeolian Islands, off the coast of Sicily, have inspired me to have a flick through last year’s shots. This was one of the most challenging photos of our trip to Italy in May last year. Making my way through the crowded upper deck on a fast, bouncing boat travelling over rough seas, to make it down the rearward-facing steps and onto the small platform at the rear of the boat, above the engines. Wedging myself into the corner with legs braced, to shoot a wide-angle image of the retreating sunset and islands of Capri and Ischia, whilst avoiding the large amounts of spray coming around the side of the boat and being thrown up from the engines. Making a correct exposure and a sharp photograph were just two additional challenges.
