Ilona in Wollishofen
A friend who will be moving away in the not-too-distant future. I wanted to take a “proper” portrait before she leaves and shot this portrait in a graffiti-ed children’s playground in Wollishofen, after we all visited our friend Nick Yoon’s exhibition.
I wanted to separate Ilona from the background, which was fairly evenly lit by daylight, so I used a combination of a flash with my Light Saber diffuser to the left and a low-power fill in flash to get rid of any heavy shadows. By only exposing for the flash light, I could ensure that the graffiti in the background didn’t distract from Ilona herself.
