We drove around back streets before asking a local for directions to the cliff-top lighthouse above Cromer, on the north coast of Norfolk. Against advice, we bumped up a narrow track to a small clearing, gained grudging permission from the lighthouse keepers to park the car, and set out in the rain and drizzle to photograph the light. I found a gap in the massed gorse bushes and ranged a little futher away, shielded my tripod from the sea wind as I took long exposure photographs, and then returned to the steamed-up car for hot coffee in a china cup. The others were more sensible than I, returning to the warmth of the car after a few minutes.
