Posts marked with the tag “strobist”
“Strobist” is the word made popular by the founder of the Strobist website, David Hobby, which refers to the photographic technique of using flash guns off-camera to create special lighting effects, both in and out of the studio. The articles on my website which are tagged “strobist” all relate to photos, techniques, locations or equipment along this theme.
Tags are keywords, which I use to group together items relating to the same or similar subjects. By navigating using tags, you can find references to information much more accurately than by simply browsing categories.

After trying out the lighting technique I mentioned yesterday, of a large diffused light source right above the subject, I wanted to apply the technique to an outdoor location. When we set up the shots under cover in Interlaken (but outside), the first problem was that there were no suitably white walls to hand. If you ever find yourself in this situation, there’s an easy solution: simply expose your shot for the person you’re photographing and then over-expose the background of the shot by at least three stops.
