Bern band Choo Choo celebrate 15 years of their record company this weekend with a gig at the Wasserwerk Club, and they select one of my photos to appear in national Swiss commuter paper 20 Minuten.

This is the kind of shot that I hope to achieve more by continuing to work with CHOO CHOO in future. They’re a great bunch, not just musically but also fun and motivated; being around them infuses everyone with energy, once they get going! No setup at all on this shot: just a grab as Lili and Dan started fooling around, which has become one of my favourite shots from our day with the Swiss Strobist crowd in Bern.
Càirdeas

Through Jo’s contact with the Whisky Experience, with whom she is working, we arranged a photoshoot for Scottish folk music band Càirdeas this weekend at the Hotel Schweizerhof in Lucerne. The guys come over from Scotland on a regular basis to play gigs at places like the Pickwick chain of British pubs and at whisky tasting events. The staff of the grand hotel on the shores of Lake Lucerne were happy for us to shoot in their main banqueting hall. You can view the complete set of photos in the Càirdeas gallery.

Dream come true

When I was in my late teens and early twenties, I dreamed of becoming a band photographer. I couldn’t imagine being stage-front because of the regularity of the shots, but more a portrait photographer; taking bands out and taking photographs of them looking moody in grotty locations. Thanks to Dan and the rest of the band Choo Choo, I’ve now had the opportunity to do both: set-up location shoots and stage-front. As Jo says: dreams come true. (Thanks to Jo for the photo above.)
