Marzili

Marzili, Bern, Switzerland

History, Individual photographs, Landscape photographySaturday, 24th October, 2009

A view at sunset of the low-lying area of Bern called “Marzili“. The area is best known for its river-side lido, to which many of the city’s residents retreat over warm summer weekends, and allegedly draws its name from Hugenot immigrants coming from the French city of Marseille in the 12th century. The area lies directly below the imposing Federal Palace, the terrace of which was the location for this autumn evening photograph. In the distance, the hill at Gurten, another green retreat for city residents, rises up to the south of the city proper.
