Continuing in the series of individual photos along the Thames which I took in 1999 for a City and Guilds photo course. This was one of the final shots of the day and most people will recognize it, to one degree or another. “The Dome” is a huge event location, now called the O2, but when I took this photo it was still named for its first use: The Millennium Dome.
The structure was built at extravagant expense, hugely over-budget, in time for the city and nation’s celebrations to mark the beginning of the new millennium. This photo is from the far side of the river, looking south from a small but exclusive housing estate; at the time, the houses were so new that there were still stickers on some of the windows and many of the minute gardens were still dust.

I remember this set – they were super – I’m sure you could sell them to a postcard ‘producer’ (but not enough money I guess?)

No, probably not: and they would probably appear dated by now! After all, the city is now ten years newer!
