On our way back from our holiday on the Aeolian Islands in 2009, heading for Catania airport, we split our journey at Taormina. I’d first visited the ancient town perched high above Sicily’s eastern coast in 1999 and wanted to return with Jo, so we called ahead and booked a room so that we could stay overnight. We arrived late on a baking afternoon, wandered around the town and enjoyed dinner, then spent much of the next morning on the main terrace, watching the tourists as well a photographer and his entourage arranging a fashion shoot.
